About
SuNaada School of Music
SuNaada School of Music, founded by Carnatic vocalist Smt. Hamsa Raghuvir in the Bay Area, is dedicated to transmitting the depth of Carnatic music through a structured and thorough approach firmly rooted in the Lalgudi bani.

SuNaada offers a structured approach to learning Carnatic vocal, starting with a strong foundation achieved by building precision in the core principles of Carnatic music. As they progress, students specialize in the rich repertoire of the Lalgudi bani, while also learning select compositions from the broader Carnatic tradition, giving them a holistic and well-rounded understanding of the tradition as a whole.
For younger learners, the training incorporates the play-based, interactive methods of COMET (Correlated Objective Music Education and Training), nurturing a love for music while building strong fundamentals that prepare them for advanced study.

Smt. Hamsa Raghuvir
Smt. Hamsa Raghuvir is a versatile Carnatic vocalist in the Lalgudi bani with a deep exposure to traditional practices in diverse settings. As the daughter of Dr. Karaikudi S. Subramanian, she belongs to the 10th generation of the Karaikudi tradition.

Hamsa trained under the legendary violin maestro and Padma Bhushan awardee Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, imbibing the Lalgudi patantharam in its entirety directly from the maestro. Her individual musical expression carries the hallmark of her guru’s aesthetic clarity, lyrical beauty and emotive depth.

Her approach to music and teaching reflects both the guidance of her guru and the pioneering work of her father at Brhaddhvani – Research & Training Centre.

Her association with Brhaddhvani also gave her the opportunity to participate in cross-cultural collaborations with jazz and Western classical musicians. While rooted in Carnatic music, her artistic journey involves an exploration of film music and non-classical genres. This breadth of experience informs her rich and nuanced perspective as a performer and teacher.
Hamsa now resides in the South Bay, where she continues to perform and teach. As a direct disciple of the Sri. Lalgudi Jayaraman, she is committed to preserving the integrity of the tradition as passed down to her by her guru, while shaping a learning experience that is both authentic and mindful of today’s exigencies.
